Visitor Center

Jennings County Visitor Center is located at the entrance of Muscatatuck Park in the William Read Home.  Our office hours are Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

William Read was once the owner of the stone cutting mill that was located where the Vinegar Mill shelter house now stands.  Mr. Read is said to have had a sour disposition, hence the name Vinegar Mill.  He built his home in 1843 on the ridge overlooking the mill.  When the state acquired the property in 1921, they created Indiana's fourth state park.  They used the home as an inn until 1958.  On May 1, 1998, the Jennings County Visitors Center relocated its office in this historic home.

Our friendly staff is here to welcome travelers to Jennings County.    We have various brochures and other publications from the area.  We also have a bookstore stocked with postcards, books about the area and from local authors, along with some items from the blacksmith.    Susan and Pat are eager to meet and greet guests, and provide them with information about the area.
